Most expensive area for older driver car insurance revealed – 12 regions listed

Older drivers are paying more for in this UK city , according to new analysis. 

Data from motoring experts at found elderly motorists with bills hitting almost £700 per year.

Analysis from the group were splashing out an average of £688.62 on an annual car insurance policy. 

Drivers in Northern Ireland were next, with road users splashing out a whopping £517.75 to use the roads. 

The East Midlands was third in the standings with motorists forced to splash out a staggering £514.41 for cover.

Over 65-year-olds based in the North West were found to pay over £505, followed by Yorkshire, with road users splashing out £480.64 on their annual premiums. 

Wales was the cheapest part of the UK with older motorists above 65 paying under £400 per year for a policy.

The South West was the second cheapest region with prices at £401.23. North East England was next at £418.89.

The Quotezone data is said to use a random sample of over 100,000 UK car insurance policies between October 2024 and December 2024.

Quotezone said that despite the variance in prices, average costs had fallen for older drivers over recent months. 

They explained: “High-risk age groups like older drivers are typically quoted higher insurance premiums. 

“This, combined with increasing averages, could have priced many out of driving in recent years. So it’s reassuring to see a fall in the average cost of car insurance for older drivers over 80 in the UK.”

 has previously warned that car insurance will tend to rise as motorists get older, with prices likely to increase from age 70. 

They said: “Typically, if you stay claim-free, car insurance gets cheaper as you get older, but once you hit your 70s or 80s your premium may start to creep up again.”
