Keir Starmer slammed by Big Brother’s Rylan for ‘unnecessary’ £80k spend on No 10

has weighed in on the Prime Minister and the Labour Government after it was unveiled that the media briefing room at 10 Downing Street underwent a £80K makeover to remove the ‘Tory blue.’

Before and after pictures posted on X, formally known as Twitter, show the changes made to the media room after ‘s new government came into power following last year’s General Election.

TV presenter Rylan, known for his role on , has reacted to the revealed price and commented: “We’d do this in a Big Brother task room for about £200.” [sic]

His response generated a mixed reaction, with one saying that £200 would not be enough for a complete renovation. They stated: “Sorry – going to be that person – you really would not. It would need to cover lighting crew, set designers, project managers, materials, insurance, etc. £200 is not covering that.” [sic]

However, someone disagreed and typed: “£80k for a lick of paint???” A third also echoed: “Government officials are seriously out of touch.”

The Downing Street Press Briefing Room was constructed during the -19 pandemic when was Prime Minister and has been used since 2021.

The briefing room’s original cost was reportedly £2.6 million, with the Cabinet Office stating that the spending “was in the public interest” as it would “increase public accountability.”

The press release was issued in response to PA Media’s Freedom of Information request. The Labour Government at the time said it reflected “‘s warped priorities.”

Meanwhile, has criticised Rachel Reeves and warned that a “recession is coming” due to the Labour Government’s new policies.

Speaking exclusively to , the former chief executive has hit out at the Labour Government for increasing National Insurance (NI) contributions, saying it will “affect every single business in the UK.”

“It’s making it more difficult to employ people, invest in people, invest in businesses, and invest in our economy,” he said.

“We’ve got to find millions of pounds this year that would otherwise have been spent on opening new locations, expanding our production facilities, and creating jobs.

“So we’re not able to invest that money to create jobs, and it’s made it harder to sustain the jobs that we have. Unfortunately, that’s the same for almost every other CEO I speak to, and I think the UK is about to tip into a recession.”
