Scarlett Johansson and Jenna Bush Hager sealed their friendship by getting their ears pierced live on TODAY with Jenna & Friends — with only a little hand-holding required.
Jenna and her guest co-host each had their right ear pierced on Jan. 23. The two revealed earlier in the week on TODAY with Jenna & Friends that they would rather get a piercing than a tattoo, so they decided to just go for it together live on the show.
They were in good hands with Johansson’s favorite piercer, Cassi Lopez, the owner of So Gold Studios in Brooklyn, and Lopez’s colleague Taylor Bell.
Johansson helped coach Jenna to the finish line as the two held hands.
“Breathe through it,” Johansson said.
“Ow, wow,” Jenna said. “It’s not terrible. I feel good, do you?”
“I love we’re talking each other through it,” Johansson said.
“We did it!” Jenna said.
Jenna shared that she had five piercings before this new one, while Johansson said that when she was younger she had multiple facial piercings in addition to her ears.
The two were feeling the anticipation for the big moment when Johansson joined TODAY during Popstart earlier in the morning. She came out wrapped in her bathrobe as she adjusts to the early-morning hours of the show.
“I’m still getting dressed,” she said. “You get up so early on this show!”
Jenna was looking forward to their bonding moment on TODAY with Jenna & Friends.
“My best friend Scarlett and I are making it official by getting our ears pierced live on the air,” Jenna said.
“Did you know that girls that get pierced together, stay together?” Johansson said.
Savannah knew all about it. She and Gwyneth Paltrow got their ears pierced together in 2019 when Savannah was interviewing her at the “In Goop Health” summit in New York City. Just like Jenna and Johansson, Savannah and Paltrow also held hands for support during the procedure.
“Well, because Gwyneth and I got a piercing about eight years ago, and Jenna has been mad about it ever since, and I see that she’s getting her revenge this morning with you,” Savannah told Johansson.
“Can’t you just be happy for us?” Johansson joked.
“No,” Savannah deadpanned.
The “Black Widow” star has been enjoying her stint as a guest co-host on TODAY with Jenna & Friends this week.
“I’m sorry, but this is my favorite job I’ve ever had,” she said.
“Guys, can we start a GoFundMe so we can hire Scarlett?” Jenna said.
“You can stay here forever,” Al Roker informed Johansson.
Jenna then suggested that maybe she and her new bestie attend the Jan. 25 episode of “Saturday Night Live,” which includes Johansson’s husband, Colin Jost, among the cast. Jenna made the request after a Popstart segment on guest host and musical guest Timothée Chalamet.
