A Danish Member of the European Parliament (MEP) told to “f*** off” as the .
Anders Vitisen, a member of the right-wing Danish People’s Party, hit out at the new US president for his continued desire to purchase the autonomous Danish territory.
He said: “Dear President Trump, listen very carefully. Greenland has been part of the Danish kingdom for 800 years. It is an integrated part of our country. . Let me put it in words you might understand: Mr Trump, f*** off.”
Mr Vitisen was speaking at the European Parliament meeting in Strasbourg, , and was quickly scolded by the Parliament’s president following his outburst.
The MEP, however, has since maintained his stance on that he could buy the world’s largest island for its strategic position.

He told : “Absurd statements draw strong reactions. And being fined by the European Parliament is a small price to pay as I stand up for Danish national sovereignty.
“The very idea of purchasing Greenland is not only to both the people of Greenland and the Kingdom of Denmark.
“Greenland is not for sale. We are willing to continue to help USA tackling their security concerns and military presence in Greenland as good and friendly allies, but nothing more.
“The Kingdom of Denmark does not bow to the arrogance of superpowers.”
The row on Greenland could fracture the US’ relationship with Denmark, particularly as he refused to rule out using “military or economic coercion”.

He says the island is key to US security, but critics have called this a facade for exploiting its vast natural resources such as rare earth metals that will only become more accessible as ice melts away due to climate change.
After “an absolute necessity”, the Republican leader added: “Well, we need Greenland for national security purposes. People really don’t even know if Denmark has any legal right to it.
“But if they do, they should give it up because we need it for national security – that’s for the free world.”
