Some 2,890 AWD examples of the battery-powered SUV are impacted Stateside, and require a software update fix
- Chevrolet is recalling 2,890 Equinox EVs in the U.S. over an adaptive cruise-control braking software issue
- The issue affects all-wheel-drive models without the optional Super Cruise system
- It’s unclear how many Equinox EVs may be affected by the problem in Canada
The recall affects Equinox EV models not equipped with General Motors’ Super Cruise driver-assistance system. That is to say, front-wheel-drive versions and models with Super Cruise are not affected. The NHTSA report states that while the system can detect the need to slow down, an incorrect software calibration may prevent the braking function from engaging.
Owners of affected vehicles must visit dealerships for a software update, while unsold units will receive the update remotely. Chevrolet has confirmed that all Equinox EVs manufactured since early December 2024 are equipped with the updated software.
