Benedict Cumberbatch makes emotional death confession after horror kidnapping

Benedict Cumberbatch has opened up about the horror ordeal when he was robbed and abducted whilst he was on location in South Africa 20 years ago.

The Academy Award nominee, known for his roles in Doctor Strange, , and The Imitation Game, revealed in a new interview with the terrifying experience during his twenties.

The 48-year-old was shooting for the series To the Ends of the Earth in South Africa when they experienced a flat tire during a driving trip.

Benedict and his friends were later robbed and kidnapped on the side of the road by six men. The group were forced into a car and were driven around for hours before their abductors abandoned them.

The actor shared about the ordeal: “It gave me a sense of time, but not necessarily a good one. It made me impatient to live a life less ordinary, and I’m still dealing with that impatience.”

Benedict also admitted: “The near-death stuff turbo-fueled all that. It made me go, “Oh, right, yeah, I could die at any moment.”

“I was throwing myself out of planes, taking all sorts of risks. But apart from my parents, I didn’t have any real dependents at that point.”

The actor is married to Sophie Hunter and is the proud father of three children – Christopher, Hal, and Finn. The pair are due to celebrate their 10-year wedding anniversary.

Benedict was recently cast in Guy Ritchie’s latest film ‘Wife and Dog,’ alongside Rosamund Pike and Sir Anthony Hopkins. Filming will begin in the UK in February 2025, after Black Bear launched sales for the project in Cannes earlier this year.

The star has previously played Dr. Stephen Strange in several superhero movies and explained that he always knew that the 2021 flick Spider-Man: No Way Home would be a huge success at the box office.

Speaking on ‘The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon,’ the actor said: “Well, I think it’s a testament to Jon Watts and the three… Jacob (Batalon), Z (Zendaya), and Tom.

“They’ve got this beautiful John Hughes homage mixed in with the ultimate universal love there is for that kid. That hero, for Spider-Man and Peter Parker. And it was such a good script. It’s such a good concept. And then there was that ‘little secret’. It was so much fun.”
