has added a truly relentless thriller to its movie offerings – and fans have been blindsided by how ruthless it is.
The series is American Primeval – a miniseries set in 1857. The six-episode thriller has been branded “relentless” and “ruthless” by fans, and charts the true story of the Mountain Meadows Massacre.
Mormons in Utah murdered at least 120 migrants who were on their way to to settle there during the westward expansion.
The pilgrims heading to America were part of the Baker-Fancher immigrant wagon train, made up of families from Arkansas. But in a show of tribal hostilities, members of the LDS Church and Utah Territorial Militia attacked them.
Even better, the new series is penned by screenwriter Mark L. Smith, who also wrote the scripts for The Revenant and Twisters.
Don’t miss…
Netflix has added a ‘masterclass’ of a thriller
The series stars Dane DeHaan, Betty Gilpin, Taylor Kitsch and Saura Lightfoot-Leon, and it’s been sending fans wild.
One fan branded it a “masterclass”, offering a rating of 9.5 out of 10. Someone else said it “caught me entirely off-guard” and was “impossible to stop watching”.
The series is based on a true story
One X user wrote: “A rollercoaster ride from beginning to end! A survival story of a mother and son, whose journey doesn’t go as planned as they have to deal with greed, violence, religion and the cold harsh mountains.”
Someone else gushed: “Watched two brutally beautiful [shows]. One on Prime, the other . Both viscerally numbing. Do not miss American Primeval’s superb melancholic soundtrack by one of my favourite bands, Explosions in the Sky.”
