head coach is taking a closer look at academy sensation Chido Obi-Martin by inviting him to get involved in recent training sessions, according to reports. The former wonderkid has been making headlines in United’s youth ranks throughout his first season at the club and is already mingling with senior players.

Obi-Martin has scored 10 goals in his first nine appearances for the Red Devils Under-18 and Under-21 teams, most recently in Tuesday’s International Cup defeat to FC Nordsjaelland.

His best performance since arriving from Hale End came on Friday when he dominated Preston North End for the U18s in the FA Youth Cup.

The 17-year-old striker led the line in Adam Lawrence’s ultra-talented side, with another highly rated goalscorer, Gabriele Biancheri, recovering from surgery on a broken hand.

Obi-Martin showcased his passing ability with a perfectly judged through ball to send James Scanlon through before he cut it back for the evening’s first goalscorer, Jack Fletcher.

The Danish youth international then produced two goals of his own in the first half, marking his brace by replicating Cristiano Ronaldo’s iconic ‘siuuu’ celebration.

His development is being handled with care at Carrington, but there is an awareness of the potential superstar lured from in the summer.

According to , Amorim has started to include Obi-Martin in first-team training sessions to monitor how he’s getting on.

Obi-Martin is said to have been primarily involved during sessions the day after matches when numbers are lowered due to players recovering.

The report adds that while Amorim is becoming increasingly familiar with what he can offer, there are no imminent plans to oversee his breakthrough into the senior game.

But Obi-Martin turns 18 in November and is believed to have left for United due to the superior pathway to first-team football.

So it wouldn’t be surprising if, depending on whether his progression continues at its current pace, a debut is on the cards in 2025.

Amorim has problems up front. and Joshua Zirkzee cost United a combined £108.5million but have managed a total of five goals this season.

The Portuguese boss is expected to push for a new striker before the January transfer deadline if Alejandro Garnacho is sold or Marcus Rashford is loaned out.

If that doesn’t come to fruition, United will be strongly linked with a summer pursuit of Sporting’s Viktor Gyokeres, given his dominant relationship with Amorim in Lisbon.

But Obi-Martin is an exciting future option, and it would be an understatement to claim he is simply catching attention.
