ITV’s was halted by presenter today as she announced “more bad news” for Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rachel Reeves.

As a red ‘breaking news’ banner flashed up on screen, interrupting normal broadcasting, the shared: “Some economic news now. It’s more bad news for the Chancellor.

“Official figures just released show that the treasury has borrowed more than expected last month. At £17.8 billion, experts had expected it to be nearly £4 billion less.

“It is the highest December figure for four years. But the Chancellor, Rachel Reeves, says there are reasons to be hopeful for the future and she’s event hinted she wants to cut taxes.”

The show cut to the politician making a speech to business people, saying: “We are not immune to the challenges opposed by the increases in tax.”

She added: “My instinct is to have lower taxes, less regulation making it easier for businesses to do business.”
