In a heartfelt appearance on ITV’s Lorraine, Christine McGuinness updated viewers on her mum Joanne’s fight against breast cancer. The TV star appeared on the show on Wednesday (22 January) to chat about her stint on Celebrity Hunted for Stand Up to Cancer alongside Blue’s Duncan James.
Christine, 36, spoke candidly about her mother’s condition following her diagnosis of aggressive HER2-positive breast cancer after discovering a lump during lockdown.
Prompted by TV presenter Lorraine Kelly, Christine shared insight into her mum’s current state: “She’s doing OK. She’s still having treatment, and she still has all of her check-ups.”
The mum-of-three, formerly married to Paddy McGuinness, previously detailed her mother’s cancer journey.
After locating a lump, Joanne underwent surgery to remove it, followed by months of chemotherapy and 10 subsequent days of radiotherapy.

Facing her family history of cancer, Christine herself took proactive steps. Besides her mother, cancer has affected four of her aunts, igniting concern.
She opted to get checked for the BRCA gene. In a sigh of relief, she told OK! magazine in 2021 that her results came back negative.

“I’m just really relieved. Thank God it came back negative,” confided Christine to OK!. “It doesn’t mean I can’t get cancer, but it means my chances are the same as anybody else’s.”
Though free from the immediate worry, Christine acknowledged an underlying concern for her children’s genetic predisposition.
“As a mum, I worry about my children anyway. But when there’s a condition like this in your family, I do worry. I feel better knowing I don’t carry the gene and I’m hoping they won’t either. But the reality is, unfortunately, it’s something that can happen,” she expressed.
