Only Fools and Horses fans furious as iconic show is slapped with trigger warning

Several episodes of the widely lauded award-winning comedy have been hit by disclaimers warning of offensive or outdated language in the show, which ran on One from 1981-2003.

Fans were left fuming by the trigger warnings issued by ITVX, which has all seven series of the show, starring and Nicholas Lyndhurst, available to stream.

The sixth episode of series one, titled The Russians are Coming currently boasts a disclaimer that reads: “Contains some offensive racial language of the time.” The Yellow Peril from the second series and Who’s A Pretty Boy from the third carry the same warning.

The fourth series features two episodes with a warning, while an episode from the fifth series, The Miracle of Peckham, carries a warning for language that “may offend”.

The sixth and seventh series are the only ones that currently carry no warnings on available episodes.

It now carries a message which reads: “Contains dated attitudes and behaviours and racist language some viewers may find offensive.”

The show also reruns on the digital channel U&Gold and has been hit with warnings.

A second commented: “It takes a brave platform to showcase a comedy. People are desperate to be outraged and offended in this country. Even UK Gold has to give a f****** warning before showing an episode of Only Fools and Horses.”

A third opined: “You know you are living in an upside down offended by everything society when the TV is giving warnings before airing episodes of Only Fools And Horses. This is what happens when everyone gets offended all the time, comedy programs are on their a***, nowadays you watch only fools and horses and before it comes on they pretty much say these are old jokes that might offend a little whine bag with no soul.”

“There’ll never be a new series of Only Fools And Horses because the 2024 generation will get offended,” a fourth speculated.

Another acknowledged some of the scenes could be problematic in today’s climate. “I’m watching series one of Only Fools & Horses and I wonder how much of this humour would get written today. If any, it’s comedy genius but the woke brigade cancel it out nowadays,” they wrote.
