Huge fire breaks out at ski resort hotel – 10 dead and dozens injured

A fire has broken out at a ski resort in Turkey, killing at least 10 and hospitalising another 32.

The fire burned overnight at the restaurant of a hotel at the Kartalkaya resort on Bolu province.

Govenor Abdulaziz Aydin said two people died after jumping out a window in an attempt to escape, according to state-run news outlet Anadolu Agency.

A total of 234 guests were staying at the hotel in northwest Turkey, according to Aydin.

The cause of the fire is not yet known, but images show the blaze engulfing the roof and top floors of the building.

There were 30 fire trucks and 28 ambulances rushed to the scene, Aydin’s office said.

Emergency services, including fire departments and helicopters, were dispatched from surrounding areas.

The popular ski resort is located in the Koroglu mountains roughly 23 miles from Bolu city centre and is an important destination for Turkey’s winter touristm sector.

It’s also currently the school holidays in the region, meaning resorts are very busy.

Other hotels at Kartalkaya were also evacuated as a precaution, AP reports.
