Good Morning Britain halted for ‘breaking news’ as Prime Minister makes announcement

Good Morning Britain was interrupted for an announcement from Prime Minister Sir in the latest instalment of the ITV morning show.

Presenters and Richard Madeley were at the helm on Tuesday (January 21) morning, delivering the day’s top stories from around the world to viewers.

The broadcast was paused to cross over to Downing Street, where Starmer addressed the nation regarding the Southport attacks, following the government’s decision to initiate a public inquiry after Axel Rudakubana admitted to the murder of three young girls.

Rudakubana, who was 17 at the time of the horrific acts, had been flagged to the Prevent programme on three separate occasions, highlighting several missed chances to prevent the tragedy that occurred on July 29 last year.

Home Secretary Yvette Cooper has declared a public inquiry “that can get to the truth about what happened and what needs to change”, reports .

On Monday (January 20), Rudakubana confessed to the stabbing murders of three young girls during a Taylor Swift-themed dance class in July.

He also entered guilty pleas to various other charges, including the attempted murder of eight children and two adults, creating a biological toxin, ricin, and possessing an al-Qaeda training manual, which constitutes a terrorism-related offence.

Despite this, his case has never been classified as terror-related by the police since he did not seem to adhere to a specific ideology, like Islamism or racial hatred, but rather seemed driven by a fascination with extreme violence.

Ms Cooper stated that “independent answers” were required regarding Prevent and other agencies that interacted with Rudakubana.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV1 and ITVX at 6am
