George Russell has sent a heart-warming message after his former team-mate’s first day with . Hamilton arrived at ’s factory in Maranello, Italy, on Monday to begin work with his new F1 team – a year after it was announced .

The seven-time world champion uploaded a photo to of himself posing , causing a social media frenzy as the post gained over five million likes. Draped in a dashing tailored suit, the Brit was swarmed by the adoring Tifosi as he began the latest chapter in his 18-year career.

Hamilton captioned the post: “There are some days that you know you’ll remember forever and today, my first as a driver, is one of those days. I’ve been lucky enough to have achieved things in my career I never thought possible, but part of me has always held on to that dream of racing in red. I couldn’t be happier to realise that dream today.

“Today we start a new era in the history of this iconic team, and I can’t wait to see what story we will write together.”

Among the thousands leaving him congratulatory messages was none other than Russell – his former team-mate of three years and soon-to-be rival, once the action gets underway in Australia. The pair appeared to enjoy a friendly relationship since Russell joined the Silver Arrows in 2022, and that is still the case judging by his comment.

The 26-year-old wrote: “Auguri fratello.” That roughly translates to “best wishes, brother”. Russell was also in attendance at Brackley as bid farewell to the 40-year-old last month.

Hamilton and Russell are likely to battle regularly on the track this year, even if appear better placed to mount a title challenge than . During one of their rare flashpoints on the track, Russell was left “lost for words” when Hamilton hit him at the Qatar GP in 2023.
