BBC Silent Witness fans ‘gutted’ minutes into show after ‘grim’ scenes

left viewers on a shocking cliffhanger on Monday night (Janaury 20) when the head of missing lawyer Faith Oscott (Kerrie Hayes) was delivered to her boss.

The second part of the drama opened with Nikki Alexander (played by Emilia Fox) was forced to visit the scene of the delivery and examine her friend’s dismembered head as fiance Jack Hodgson (David Cave) looked out for her.

Viewers admitted they were “gutted” by the outcome as, for much of the first instalment, it had appeared Faith might still be alive.

Taking to X, one wailed: “Gutted for Faith. Gutted for Nikki #silentwitness.” Another said: “Severed heads very grim #silentwitness.”

“A particularly gruesome episode of #SilentWitness – clinical decapitation & amputations. But easier for forensic pathologists, I suppose. Presumably, they cope well with ‘Grim’,” a third specualted. A fourth admitted: “I was really hoping by some miracle she might be alive #silentwitness.”

Meanwhile, other fans loved the way Jack took care of her during the traumatic scene. He gently touched her arm to reassure her, and viewers went wild for the simple gesture.

“Jack holding Nikki back and the little nod to check she’s ok with what is clearly going to be distressing for her. #silentwitness,” one gushed.

“The eye contact, the little nod of reassurance. Their silent communication is next level. With Jack by her side she will get through anything #silentwitness,” another observed.

“Did he just touch her arm to hold her back and check on her, letting her know he’s there and she’s not alone?? Oh my heart #silentwitness,” one fan exclaimed.

Things didn’t become any less grim as the episode progressed as more body parts were found including Faith’s body.

Despite her close proximinty to the case Nikki remained professional as she tried to get to the bottom of her friend’s murder.

Given the nature of Faith’s job there were multiple potential suspects.

However it was a visit to see a prisoner which eventually cracked the case for her, as he asked: “Wasn’t the head message enough?”

In a twist in the final minutes this led the team to investigate someone closer to the victim than they expected.
