The results are in, and it appears the ABC comedy series “Abbott Elementary” has passed its latest exams with flying colors.

Created by and starring Quinta Brunson, the show has been renewed for its fifth season. Set against the backdrop of Philadelphia’s public school system, “Abbott Elementary” draws inspiration from Brunson’s mother’s experience in the city’s educational landscape. The news also marks a milestone as the first ABC program to secure a renewal for the 2025-26 season, per “Deadline.”

According to Variety, the show’s winter premiere garnered a series high 8.05 million viewers, thanks to the highly anticipated crossover episode with “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.”

In addition to Brunson, the show stars Janelle James,Tyler James Williams, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Lisa Ann Walter, Chris Perfetti and William Stanford Davis.

In a 2022 interview with HuffPost, Brunson revealed that her award-winning sitcom was not her first shot at television. Prior to “Abbott Elementary,” she pitched a similar concept inspired by her experiences at BuzzFeed, the parent company of HuffPost.

“I pitched it to ABC and I knew that I wasn’t going to sell it to them,” Brunson said. “But the team of people I met there that I was pitching to, I was like, ‘I like these people, and I want to work with these people eventually. You guys get me. This is not the show for ABC Family Network, but I want to bring something here.’”
