Vladimir Putin humiliated with warning it would take 100 years to invade Ukraine

Russian dictator Vladimir Putin was brutally mocked in the House of Commons as the Foreign Secretary said it would take him a century to invade .

Putin’s bloody war has destroyed Russian’s economy and caused huge numbers of casualties, said Foreign Secretary David Lammy.

But he also highlighted the enormous suffering of the Ukrainian people and said the UK would always support .

Mr Lammy was telling MPs about the planned 100-year partnership between the UK and , which includes a commitment to provide £3bn in military aid each year for as long as it takes.

He said: “Putins’ position is not one of strength. The invasion has been a monumental strategic failure and pressure is mounting.

“‘s casualty rate is staggering, the highest number of military casualties the countryhas suffered since the second world war.

” is more insecure than it was before the war, and for what?

” gained some territory last year, yes. Fields and small settlements left barren by relentless bombardment, taken at a rate so slow they would need a century to take all of .”

He said was suffering “spiralling inflation with basic goods like butter unaffordable.”

He said the war had gone on for three years and “e must not let up now. Putin hopes that the world lacks his resolve. We need to call his bluff to prove him wrong.”

Mr Lammy also warned that the post war order with borders respected would be “seriously undermined” if Putin won.

He said: “We stand firmly with today, tomorrow and for generations to come. Their cause is just.”

Ukrainains are “fighting back courageously,” he said, but Putin “shows no sign of wanting peace” and only wants “the subjugation of the Ukrainian people”.

The UK has announced£40m for a new economic recovery programme to unlock hundreds of millions of pounds worth of private lending to bolster the growth and economic resilience of small and medium businesses in , which form the backbone of the country’s economy.

The UK developed the new scheme following an ask from to the G7 to help trace snatched grain from fields under Russian control, which is then relabelled and sold on.

Using cutting edge science to help determine where grain has been grown and harvested, the UK has developed a database to support ‘s efforts to trace and stop theft of grain from occupied regions.
