Snooker star ends match early and snubs Neil Robertson handshake in latest strop

Matt Selt seemed to ignore after losing to the Thunder From Down Under in the Championship League. Just a month after , Selt shook hands with the official after his 3-2 loss but walked straight past Robertson.

The match had technically not finished when Selt grabbed something out of his pocket and leapt out of his chair. Robertson led the deciding frame but it was clear that his opponent felt enough was enough.

Selt walked towards the referee and shook his hand before grabbing the case for his cue from underneath the snooker table. Robertson looked on slightly bemused and was seen sharing a brief chat with the referee.

There was notably no handshake between the two players, with Selt not engaging with his opponent and focusing on putting away his cue. Robertson walked off screen.

Selt eventually walked away from the table after collecting his possessions. It is not the first time the 39-year-old has reacted badly to a defeat in recent months.

In December, Selt after a disappointing defeat in German Masters qualifying. He was beaten by Latvian prospect Artemijs Zizins, who hit a fortunate shot to win the match.

“No! Oh my god!” cried an angry Selt who initially engaged in pleasantries with his young opponent before walking away. But it then seemed that Selt had continued his fury away from the table, with loud crashing and banging heard off camera.

“Matthew, please!” the referee begged, but Selt snapped back: “Shut up!”

He later revealed that he had apologised to Zizins by text and wished him good luck in the Berlin finals. Selt said: “I shouldn’t have made that outburst. It is raw emotion of live sport. It wasn’t malicious or derogatory. I said ‘well played’ and ‘good luck’ after the game. The game was played in great spirits.

“I reached out to him after and said: ‘I’m sorry about yesterday, I hope the outburst didn’t upset you, it wasn’t meant like that and good luck in Berlin’. He messaged back and apology accepted.”

However, match ball. Speaking on Stephen Hendry’s YouTube channel in a video allegedly recorded the day after the incident, he said:

“It is what it is. The kid fluked match ball, he played great and I let the emotion out. Once he had potted the ball I couldn’t win so it was not a case of doing something that would have distracted him or put him off, the match was over and it was just a natural reaction.

“I didn’t put the kid off so I don’t see what the problem is really, well there’s no problem at all for me.”
