O2 has issued a warning to phone users
If you received some shiny new gadgets over the Christmas period now could be a good time to get rid of your old tech. According to new research from UK network O2, the average UK home is missing out on over £200 by not handing over devices they no longer use. Smartphones currently gathering dust in the back of cupboards can be traded in, with O2 just one firm that offers real cash for things such as Galaxy, Pixel and Apple’s iPhone.
“Research from Virgin Media O2 has revealed the average UK household is sat on over £218 worth of unwanted mobile phones, but only one in ten1 (11%) Brits has traded in a device in the last five years,” O2 said in an email sent to Express.co.uk
O2 also says some consumers who are trading in are taking too long to sort things which means the device can end up depreciating in value.
“Sell your unwanted mobile, laptop or tech as soon as you’re done with it. The sooner you sell it, the more money you’re likely to get for it,” O2 added.
If you want to know how much your device is worth, you can head to O2 Recycle and punch in the details.
Along with phones, it’s also worth checking out if tablets, smartwatches, earbuds, consoles or MacBooks are worth anything as these devices can also add money to your bank account.
In addition to getting cash back, these devices are often recycled or refreshed, which means there is less chance of them ending up in landfills.
HERE’S WHAT O2 MAY PAY YOU
iPhone 11 – £88
iPhone 13 – £158
Phone 14 – £209
Samsung Galaxy S23 – £178
Samsung Galaxy S22 – £100
Of course, O2 isn’t the only company offering trade-in deals. There are plenty of other sites that will take your old tech, so shop around.
Samsung and Apple will also drop the price of a new device when you hand over something old so it’s worth checking these deals as well.
One thing you must not do is simply let those old gadgets sit gathering dust as you will be missing out on getting some cash back in your pocket.
