Bleach warning as expert claims it’s the ‘biggest mistake’ when cleaning mould

“A combination of proper ventilation, fixing leaks, and using the right products is essential for long-term results.”
According to the expert, using bleach to tackle mould is the “biggest mistake” Britons make.
While bleach can work on non-porous surfaces like tiles, it’s a “no-go” on painted or wooden surfaces like walls and ceilings.
The expert said: “Though bleach might remove visible mould temporarily, it only kills surface-level spores and doesn’t tackle the underlying problem.

“The mould will return after a short period of time and continue to grow.”
Another mistake many people make is painting over mould with regular paint in hopes it’ll cover the problem.
However, according to the expert, this will only temporarily hide the issue, rather than treat it.
Michael said: “The mould will unfortunately continue to grow beneath the surface.

“If left unchecked, this can reportedly lead to respiratory issues, allergies, or even trigger asthma attacks.”
Instead, the expert recommended focusing on the best solutions for getting rid of mould long-term.
This included ventilation, fixing leaks and seeking expert help.
The pro continued: “The key to effectively combating mould is to address both the symptoms and their underlying causes.
“Firstly, ensure your home is well-ventilated by opening windows regularly to allow airflow, especially in high-moisture areas like the kitchen and bathroom.
“Use dehumidifiers or fans in damp areas to reduce moisture levels in the air.”
