have reportedly committed to forking out millions of pounds just to send out on loan for the rest of the season.

The Brazilian could seal his switch to Real Betis today (Monday) after reaching a complete agreement on personal terms. But the side are unwilling to cover all of his astronomical wages.

According to , Betis will pay less than half of Antony’s salary, leaving United to cover at least 50% themselves. With 18 weeks left until the end of the season, that equates to an absolute minimum of £1.8million, with the true figure likely to be even higher.

INEOS will therefore be forced to reach into their deep pockets just to facilitate Antony spending the next few months at a different club. And they have insisted on a specific transfer clause to make sure the switch is worthwhile.

It is understood that Betis will be liable to pay a penalty clause if they do not play Antony in a pre-specified number of games. United want to guarantee that the 24-year-old features week in and week out in the hope that it will boost his market value before a potential sale in the summer.

If Betis field Antony in a particularly high proportion of their remaining games, they will reportedly pay no loan fee at all to United.

The winger’s move to Spain does not include an option to buy but Betis could, in theory, sit down at the negotiating table this summer if it proves to be a success. United will be desperate to recoup a chunk of the £85million they paid to Ajax in 2022.

But Antony’s dreary record of five goals in 62 games suggests they will have to take a painful financial hit. And the player himself has work to do to convince suitors he can cut it in a top European league.

United need to raise cash through player sales and shed weight from their wage bill in order to bring in new faces for this winter. Antony’s exit would be a step in the right direction, and Marcus Rashford is set to follow him out of the exit door.

Borussia Dortmund have ramped up their efforts to sign Rashford on loan. And it is believed they want to announce his arrival by Thursday this week so he stands a chance of taking part in Saturday’s clash with Werder Bremen.
