TalkSPORT host Jeff Stelling was forced to apologise live on air after reading out a sick tweet from a Cardiff City fan. Stelling was on his regular morning slot with co-host Ally McCoist when the message came in via X, having tagged the two presenters as well as the talkSPORT account.

“Morning Jeff and Ally,” wrote @Billybrigh20993. “Please can you shout out all the Cardiff City fans after a very easy win over Swansea town on the weekend.

“South Wales is blue. Cheers Terry Coles.”

Stelling read the message in its entirety, and went on to praise Cardiff for their “fantastic” result. However, he initially seemed unaware of the sick nature of the post, with Terry Coles a Swansea fan who was killed in 2000.

Ahead of a League Two title decider for the Swans and Rotherham at Millmoor, Coles, 42, was killed after falling to the ground and being trampled on by a police horse. It followed trouble breaking out between opposing fans.

It was later ruled that Coles died of abdominal wounds. An inquest was held three years later, with the jury returning a verdict of accidental death.
