Martin Clunes’ new drama Out There has viewers switching off just two episodes into its six part run. The star plays the role of a Welsh farmer who is trying to protect his son after he gets mixed up with a drug dealer.
However, many of those tuning in branded the new series was “slow” and took issue with Martin’s Welsh accent. Taking to X – formerly known as Twitter – viewers shared their disappointed with the new drama so far.
One user penned: “So slow I gave up and turned off #OutThere,” as another agreed: “#OutThere suspect there’s more plot in the reminder sequence than the whole of yesterday’s episode.”
“I thought #OutThere was really boring last night. Maybe I’ll give it another go one day,” a third who seemed not to have even bothered with episode two commented.
A fourth chimed in: “Very slow, Martin clunes welsh accent is woeful #OutThere.” Meanwhile a fifth also took issue with his accent saying: “The initial premise of dad would do anything to protect his son was what made me want to watch this, but now I’m in it just for Martin Clunes’ Welsh accent dropping from sentence to sentence and then appearing out of nowhere again #OutThere.”

One viewer did seem to be sucked into the drama despite finding it a “difficult” watch. “@ITV #outthere is a difficult watch. And a story so recognisable in today’s drug world. Frightening to watch,” they said.
All six episodes of the drama have been made available to watch on ITVX and it will broadcast every Sunday and Monday on ITV1 for the next three weeks.
In tonight’s installment Martin, who plays Nathan Williams in the show, took a stand for his son Johnny (Louis Ashbourne Serkis) after the teen thought drugs he was holding for a friend Rhys (Gerran Howell) had been stolen from their home.
When Nathan confronted Rhys attempting to pay off Johnny’s debt they learned that Rhys had tricked the youngster, filling a bag with a rugby ball and stealing it back to hold it over him.
Infuriated Nathan took Rhys real drugs and flushed them downt he toilet as the young dealer swore vengance.
He later used this to blackmail Johnny into doing drugs runs for him to pay off the debt for the flushed drugs.
