Emmerdale fans were taken aback to learn that a beloved village character once had an overlooked role in .

ITV soap legend Lisa Riley, who portrays Mandy Dingle, posted a nostalgic photo of herself on the cobbles on this Monday.

Lisa, 48, wrote: “YES! ! ! This is me in @coronationstreet 1992 playing the new staff member in “BetterBuys” many many many years ago! ! Good flashback #coronationstreet #flashback #1992 #soap #yes #funny”, accompanied by laughing emojis.

The post left Lisa’s 214K followers astonished, with many confessing they ‘didn’t realise’ she had previously featured in rival soap , reports .

One person said: “Wow I didn’t realise it’s you in ! I thought only “, a different account put: “No way!”, another follower wrote: “Wow omg xx” while a different soap fan added: “Love it! x!”

Lisa first graced in 1995 as Mandy, remaining until 2001. The actress reprised her role as Mandy in 2019 and has been a mainstay ever since.

Beyond , Lisa is recognised for hosting You’ve Been Framed! from 1998 to 2002, playing Rebecca Patterson on Fat Friends from 2002 to 2005, and Tina Allen on Waterloo Road from 2011 to 2013.

This revelation comes as viewers witnessed an unexpected departure of a character from on Friday, five years after their introduction.

In the most recent episode, viewers bid farewell to Wendy Posner after her web of deceit was unravelled in the village, prompting a swift departure.

This follows rumours earlier this year that Susan Cookson, who portrays Wendy, had been written out of the show and would be exiting her role at some point during the year.

In other news, it has also been suggested that Leyla Harding (Roxy Shahidi), Brenda Walker (Lesley Dunlop) and Ella Forster (Paula Lane) are all set to make their exit from the ITV soap later this year.
