Noni Madueke made it 3-1 to Chelsea against Wolves
Noni Madueke has revealed he apologised to team-mate Trevoh Chalobah after pinching a goal from the centre-back in their on Monday night.
Chalobah’s goalbound header was headed into the bottom corner at Stamford Bridge before Madueke got the final touch virtually on the goalline.
And speaking to Sky Sports post-match, the winger shared what he and Chalobah said in the immediate aftermath: “For sure it’s instinct. Attacker’s instinct. I think I knew it was going over the line.
“I said sorry to Trevoh afterwards. An assist on his first game back is great for him! I had to put this in the net for sure.
“That’s my brother. He was telling me, ‘No way you took my goal, no way you took my goal!’ I told him, ‘Bro, come on, you have to understand that this is what they pay me to do!'”
He added: “I got the hat-trick [against Wolves] earlier on in the season and it’s another one today. I’m delighted with the three points.
“It’s been tough for us and I’m always happy to score goals, especially somewhat easier ones like that.”
But former Chelsea midfielder Emmanuel Petit, on punditry duty for Sky Sports, said that Madueke should have opted against getting the final touch: “Strikers it’s all about stats, and they’re quite selfish.
“I’m happy for Madueke. But I think he should have let the ball go into the net.”
Enzo Maresca said in his assessment of Chelsea’s win: “The first 40 minutes we were top. The performance was very good, completely dominate the game, score, chances.

“Then the last five minutes happen – what is happening many times in the last four or five games. We lost a little bit of confidence, concede the goal and struggle a little a bit.
“Second half, we start quite well and after the second and third goal the game was in control.
“We are happy we won the game. Then from tomorrow we will start to think about [Manchester] City, which for sure will be a tough game.
“In the last five games, we created many chances and didn’t score. Tonight we scored three.”
