BBC The Traitors fans divided over ‘big twist’ that would ‘spice things up’

Fans of The Traitors have come up with a compelling proposal for a ‘big twist’ that could add an extra layer of intrigue to the popular show.

As the finale looms on the horizon this Friday (January 24), the series has kept fans on the edge of their seats for weeks. Now, suggestions from users have emerged for adding a twist they believe would elevate the excitement factor.

The current format lays out a clear challenge: the Faithful characters must expose the Traitors within their ranks to win a substantial cash prize, which can reach £120,000.

While viewers are privy to the identities of the Traitors from the moment Claudia Winkleman unveils them in the opening scenes, some fans suggest that keeping these details under wraps until later in the game could lead to a more engaging viewing experience.

One enthusiast triggered discussions by asking: “Would you watch a season where you know as much as the Faithful?” and added their thoughts to the online forum: “I’m really enjoying Season 3, but I can’t help but feel it would spice things up a bit if we as the audience only knew as much as the Faithful do,” reports .

The concept of veiling the Traitors’ identities is suggested to transform the show, particularly during moments like the round table discussions, which might appear frustrating when audiences already know who the perpetrators are.

The radical idea struck a chord among several other fans on the forum, leading to comments such as: “Yes, absolutely. Or maybe even as an interactive game,” while another echoed the sentiment, saying: “That would be fun alright,” and someone else praised the notion with “Oooh good shout.”

However, not everyone was sold on the idea of an alternative format, with some arguing that knowing the Traitors’ identities is a crucial part of the show’s appeal.

One viewer expressed their reservations: “It would definitely add a different dimension to watching the show, but the audience [being] in on it adds to the fun massively.”

They continued: “It allows us to see the heights of deception and conniving that the Traitors go to and also cringe at the Faithfuls who are so convinced they have it right (ahem…Joe), which makes up a lot of the fun parts of the viewing. We would lose a lot of fun if we didn’t know who they were”.

Another fan shared their thoughts on : “I think it would be the most boring show ever. Remove the drama created by knowing who’s who and all you have is a bunch of people fumbling their way through a murder mystery, awful idea.”

A different viewer chimed in: “I’ve wondered this. I suspect producers thought about it, but it would be a long hour of watching 22 people in a castle saying ‘So who do you think it is?’ The turret chat is quite an entertaining bit of the show.”

A fellow Traitors fan agreed: “It wouldn’t work. Almost all of the entertainment in the show stems from us knowing what the Faithful don’t.”

As the series nears its conclusion, with only three episodes left, the two remaining Traitors have been revealed as Minah, who was chosen by Claudia at the start of the series, and newly-recruited Charlotte.

The Traitors continues on Wednesday at 9pm on One and iPlayer
