Homemade scones are an essential part of an English afternoon tea served with clotted cream and jam, but many think for them are complicated.

Not quite cake and not quite bread, they are delicious warm from the oven for breakfast and can be in 10 minutes according to chef Clodagh McKenna.

Taking to her page , the chef shared step-by-step instructions on her go-to scones .

She captioned saying: “I’m baking my easy 10-minute scones in today’s IGTV series. Anyone can make these scones the is so simple.”

What’s great about this is that you can build your scones with a variety of add-ins like chocolate chips, and berries, or make it savoury with the likes of cheese and herbs.

Ingredients (makes 10 scones)

450g plain flour

Two teaspoons of baking powder

Two teaspoons sugar

Pinch of sea salt

100g butter, chilled and cubed

300ml milk

Method 

The first step is to preheat the oven to 200C, 180C fan or gas mark six before moving on to making your dough.

For the dough, sieve the flour and baking powder into a large bowl. Then stir in the sugar and a pinch of salt.

Rub the butter into the flour mixture using your fingertips until it resembles fine breadcrumbs. Gradually pour in enough milk to make a soft dough.

Roll out the dough on a floured surface to a thickness of one centimetre. Cut into circles with a pastry cutter or an upturned glass.

Brush the scones with the remaining milk and a sprinkle of sugar. Place the circles on a floured baking tray.

Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes. Once baked, leave to cool on a wire rack.
