Mendes, 21, played under Amorim at Sporting CP before heading to Paris on loan in the summer of 2021. A year later, the move was made permanent after the French club activated his £32million release clause.
He’s since become an integral player for the French champions, making 103 club appearances. And his form has attracted the attention of United as well as a host of other European clubs.
But according to the , the club have not been put off their pursuit. PSG are said to want £51m for the player, a figure seemingly way above United’s own valuation.
Rayan Ait-Nouri appears a new option for Amorim.
After permitting ex-manager to spend more than £200m on new players in the summer, the Red Devils need to balance the books with player sales before they spend big again. PSG are also said to be reluctant to sell the player, who is currently contracted until the summer of 2026.
As a result, Amorim is now turning his attention to a target closer to home. ’ Rayan Ait-Nouri is reportedly being lined up as an alternative option, having impressed for his club this season despite their fight against relegation.
The 23-year-old, born in France, has opted to play for Algeria at international level and has 15 caps to his name. His versatility also makes him an attractive proposition for Amorim, able to play in an advanced wing-back role as well as in defence.

Ait-Nouri first arrived at Molineux on loan from Angers in 2020, later sealing a permanent £9.8m switch. Like Mendes, his current deal runs out in 18 months’ time but it is unclear what price Wolves would demand.
Amorim is yet to make a signing since arriving at Old Trafford in November. A number of his current players have been linked with moves elsewhere though, with the likes of Antony, , and on the brink of January exits.
