Luke Humphies and Shaun Murphy have differing opinions on what’s harder to achieve
ace would probably have been watching on with a smirk as completed a 147-break during Saturday’s action at Alexandra Palace.
, with the 42-year-old dubbing it a “dream come true”.
It’s only a couple of weeks since Humphries, who is no stranger to wowing the crowds at Ally Pally himself, made his feelings clear on a 147-break and its difficulty during a face-to-face stand-off with snooker star Murphy.
The two featured at a PaddyPower event, where Humphries and Murphy, alongside counterparts Michael van Gerwen and Mark Williams, had been tasked with hitting the most nine-darters vs 147-breaks.
Snooker prevailed on this occasion but not before Humphries and Murphy exchanged words, with the former adamant a 147-break was easier to hit than a nine-darter.
During a piece to camera at the event, Humphries was asked his opinion on the task, with the world darts No.1 replying: “I think if you’re an amateur [and] you don’t play snooker, you don’t play golf, you don’t play darts… you give them a snooker cue, some darts and a golf club. I think they’d do the hole-in-one first, the nine-darter second and then the 147 last.
“I think that would be harder. But to a professional, I think a nine-darter is harder than a 147.”
Murphy, not one to keep quiet at the best of times, was quick to hit back, saying: “I didn’t know you were a comedian too.”

With the temperature inside the room beginning to heat up, Van Gerwen was next to get involved, stating: “No one was joking.”
Humphries, determined to get one over on his sporting rival, added: “What’s funny about that? Did you hear what I said though? When you know all the angles… You’ve seen you two – Mark’s come close already! That’s my opinion when you’re a professional you make it look easy to hit a 147.
“Stats show it too. In frames and legs of darts there are more 147s than nine-darters.”
Just minutes after the disagreement, Murphy sunk a 147, perhaps illustrating Humphries’ point for him.

The comments are unlikely to take anything away from Murphy’s latest 147-break at the Masters though, given he’s been targeting a Triple Crown maximum since the beginning of the season.
Speaking to Sport after hitting the 147, the Masters finalist said: “I can’t believe it, I’m as surprised as you are.
“It was one of the best moments of my career, I’d wanted to make a 147 in one of these events since I was a kid.”
Murphy is set to take on Kyren Wilson for the Masters title at Alexandra Palace this afternoon (Sunday).
