Late Queen was outraged by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s ‘lie’ about Lilibet’s name

The late was left outraged by and ‘s Apparent ‘lie’ about the name that they chose for their daughter.

, who was born in June 2021, is Harry and Meghan’s only daughter and a younger sister to Prince Archie.

In Robert Hardman’s new biography, Charles III: New King, New Court. The Inside Story, which was previously serialised in the , one member of staff had said that the late Queen was “as angry as I’d ever seen her” after hearing that Meghan and Harry had alleged that they’d been given her permission to use the name ‘Lilibet’.

Lilibet was the adorable name that had been around since the late monarch’s childhood when the then-Princess Elizabeth was just a toddler and could not pronounce her name. It was also a sweet nickname later used by her late husband, Prince Philip.

At the time of Lilibet’s birth, the reported that, contrary to what Harry and Meghan had said, the Queen was not asked for her blessing to use the name.

Other reports claimed that, while the Queen was contacted by her grandson, she was not in the position to say no.

However, a spokesperson for Meghan and Harry later hit back at these claims and said that they would not have used the name for their daughter if the late Queen had not been “supportive”.

The spokesperson said at the time: “The Duke spoke with his family in advance of the announcement – in fact his grandmother was the first family member he called.

“During that conversation, he shared their hope of naming their daughter Lilibet in her honour. Had she not been supportive, they would not have used the name.”

Commenting on the situation, Mr Hardman shared in his book: “One privately recalled that Elizabeth II had been ‘as angry as I’d ever seen her’ in 2021 after the Sussexes announced that she had given them her blessing to call their baby daughter ‘Lilibet’, the Queen’s childhood nickname.”

According to Hardman, Queen Elizabeth told Palace aides: “I don’t own the palaces, I don’t own the paintings, the only thing I own is my name. And now they’ve taken that.”

As well as paying homage with her first name, Lilibet’s middle name is Diana – which is a tribute to the late Princess Diana.
