A has taken to to share how he managed to get behind the wheel of an often underrated luxury saloon for less than a £1,000.

Matt Goodwin runs the YouTube channel and regularly fronts videos in which he buys models for his dealership and gives advice to help viewers find the best model for them.

In , Matt buys a 2004 for £800, stating that, whilst the paintwork leaves a lot to be desired, the German model offers a lot of car for the money.

He explained: “Well, we’re here and I mean for £800 I can’t complain can I? It looks quite tidy, really. I would never have picked that colour, you see a lot of examples of mid-2000s cars in that wishy-washy colour, and it is a bit like a Dulux paint chart – the near side front door is massively off-colour.

“Right, the headlamps want buffing but they usually come up really clean looking. It needs new registration plates, but there’s a full-leather interior and a dashcam. It looks alright, and £800 for a 3.0-litre diesel Quattro automatic, I can’t go wrong, can I?”

Built from 2004 to 2011, the third-generation Audi A6 may not look particularly striking compared to more contemporary models, but offers plenty of luxurious features for a model available at such a low cost.

With the 3.0-litre diesel engine fitted, the A6 is capable of accelerating from 0-60mph in 7.3 seconds whilst still returning an average of more than 33mpg.

Whilst Matt was able to score an example that needed some minor work for £800, used car buyers can easily get behind the wheel of their own Audi A6 for around £1,500, with a £3,000 budget enough to get a particularly clean model.

Getting inside the car for the first time, Matt highlighted that giving it a good clean could help to make the Audi worth a significant amount more.

He continued: “Let’s have a look inside it. Well, it’s quite clean, it doesn’t stink or anything. We’ve got a Nextbase dashcam here. This wood trim is a bit tarnished, but I’m not complaining, that’s just an observation.

“With a good old clean, this will look alright, you know. We’ve got power-folding mirrors, and they both work. Do my windows work? Well, the passenger one is very reluctant to operate, but they do. Right, we’re cooking!”

Once on the road, the used car dealer highlighted that the 3.0-litre engine offered great levels of power and recommended buyers always check for a common fault when buying a pre-owned automatic car.

He added: “They’re quite nice to drive these, you know. The steering is nice and light, you get plenty of power, and the gearbox is quite smooth. I think, if the previous owner spent a couple of grand on it just 5,000 or 6,000 miles ago, we’ve got half a chance that this actually drives OK.

“It pulls well, I’ll tell you that for nothing. This actually drives really well, I’m quite pleased. I’m watching out for a smooth-changing gearbox, one that doesn’t cling on to the gears too long, and all that sort of stuff. It seems to be alright – very good.”
