Dancing On Ice Michaela Strachan’s boyfriend’s ‘extreme concern’ after heartbreaking year

Michaela Strachan, 58, has spoken candidly about the “extreme concern” expressed by her partner, Nick Chevallier, ahead of the new series.

The Springwatch presenter, who is also known for shows including The Really Wild Show, resides in South Africa with her other half, a well known cameraman and producer, Nick Chevallier, in Cape Town with his three children from a previous relationship.

Michaela shares her son, Ollie, 19, with her ex-husband, Duncan Chord. She married Duncan in 1996, but the couple called it quits five years later.

The broadcaster is currently wowing viewers with her skating skills on Dancing On Ice, in which she is partnered with pro Mark Hanretty.

But her beau has shared a word of caution to the presenter amid injury fears.

She revealed the nature documentary director and cameraman had told her he was “extremely concerned” about her risking injury on the show.

“The first thing we did when I was asked to do the show was watch the accidents on YouTube which is probably the worst thing to do,” Michaela admitted.

“I’m of an age where it takes longer for me to mend so the thought of injury does concern me.”

“But this is the best year for me to be doing Dancing On Ice so the positives outweigh the few worries,” the presenter defiantly added.

Michaela’s comments come after she opened up on the “heartbreaking year” she faced before taking to the skating rink.

While speaking on the Marie Curie Couch podcast, the favourite described the past year as “really sad.”

She recounted the losses within her close circle, beginning with her sister-in-law, sharing: “There was a lot of loss in my close circle of family and friends, starting off at the beginning of the year with the passing of my sister-in-law who died of cancer… she suffered for three years and eventually passed in January.”

Michaela also spoke about how her partner Chevallier’s previous wife had died from cancer, which made his sister’s passing particularly poignant. Around the same time, Nick’s best friend died of a heart attack, adding to their grief.

She also spoke of the loss of her close friend Lucy. “She had a very similar breast cancer to myself. She had a very similar diagnosis to myself and they said, ‘We’ve caught it early. It’s a small bit of cancer in one breast. We’ll do a mastectomy. We’ll put you on Tamoxifen. You’ll be fine’.”

“Which is exactly the same as I had,” Michaela continued. “And here I am 10 years later and I am fine. My friend wasn’t so lucky and hers came back and it spread and we lost her last year.”
