“Weekend Update” host Colin Jost clowned Donald Trump over his official inaugural portrait just days before he takes the oath of office on Monday.
“Well, guys, it is the dawn of a new era. Donald Trump released his official inaugural portrait and the photo was lit, I assume, by hell opening up,” quipped the host of the “Saturday Night Live” news segment.
He joked that the president-elect — whose portrait sparked comparisons with his 2023 mugshot — was trying to “look so hardcore” in the photo that he’s “surprised he didn’t add a parental advisory and a durag” to it.
“And then Trump also released the official portrait of JD Vance,” added Jost as an image of a silhouette atop a transparent background flashed to the side of him.
Co-host Michael Che then stepped in to poke fun at the inauguration ceremony being moving inside the U.S. Capitol building due to freezing temperatures.
“Hey, just like last time,” quipped Che as an image from the Jan. 6, 2021 attack appeared on screen.
He later noted that Monday’s inauguration falls on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
“And if Dr. King were alive today I bet Trump would walk right up to him and say, ‘Oh snap, it’s Ben Carson,’” Che joked.
