A stunning journey has been named among the most incredible routes to book this year, and winds through some of ‘s most awe-inspiring landscapes.

Travel site hailed Peru’s Lake Titicaca among the “most incredible rail journeys to book” in 2025, noting its wealth of natural beauty.

Starting at Puno, a city in the south of the country, the service travels 241 miles in 10 hours, traversing “the Altiplano, from the shores of Lake Titicaca to the bustling heart of the ancient Incan empire, the railway from Puno to Cuzco cuts a ponderous but picturesque path through the snow-dusted peaks and voluptuous valleys of the Andes”, the website writes.

Travellers also get to cross the “epic Peruvian plains, passing hardy bowler-hatted llama farmers and traveling through remote towns and villages”, it adds.

The journey ends in Cuzco, a former capital of the ancient Incan Empire nestled in the Peruvian Andes.

A bit of planning is required as there are only three services a week, but it’s said to be well worth the waiting for.

One reviewer who visited the region in December gave the service a five-star review, saying: “Highly recommend this train journey to experience ‘close to luxury’ at a comparatively affordable price.”

He also sung the praises of the “great food, hospitality, Pisco Sour class, multiple dance performances, fashion shows and last but not the least breathtaking views of Andes”.

Another who visited in October also gave a glowing review, and said the “general atmosphere was really friendly and upbeat”.

“The crew even applauded the passengers as they left the – really should have been the other way around,” they added.

A third said: “Such a lovely trip! Came to Peru just for this ride and it was worth it 🙂 Exceptional staff, extremely professional and kind!”

But it’s not the only epic journey on offer in the country.
