DIY SOS star , 62, has shared an update on his rehabilitation journey following a serious knee injury. Last month, he underwent multiple surgeries to repair a torn ACL – a ligament he damaged during a dress rehearsal for ‘s live shows.
Currently, as he relearns how to walk. When asked about his progress, he revealed to the press: “I’m still recovering. It’s gonna be about eight months before it’s like fully 100% again, so, I think I’ll go back to doing less dangerous things after that – like climbing mountains and riding motorbikes!”
Attending the opening night of Cirque du Soleil’s Corteo show, Nick confessed that his injury came as a surprise, given his history of participating in high-risk sports and activities without suffering any major setbacks. He reflected: “It’s really weird.
“I did 40 years of rugby and got away with it without major injury. I’ve done all kinds of weird things like, you know, riding motorbikes in the desert and all kinds of activities. So, that’s really why I had the operations, because, even at my age, I want to get back to the point where I can carry on doing all the adventurous stuff that I’ve done before.”
Unfortunately, this wasn’t Nick’s only injury during his time on . Just two weeks into the competition, he tore his bicep while changing a tyre on his Range Rover, forcing him to take a temporary break from the show for a week.
Nick underwent a number of operations
Just a fortnight later, Nick suffered an ACL tear while practising a jump during a dress rehearsal with professional dancer Luba Mushtuck.
Despite soldiering on with the injury, he was eliminated from the competition in week four, becoming the third celebrity to exit the show.
Post-exit, Nick underwent two surgeries – one to reattach his bicep and another to construct a new ACL and repair two tears.

While the injury occurred during his Strictly journey, Nick clarified that the won’t be covering any of the medical expenses.
He explained: “Somebody asked me on Twitter if Strictly we’re paying for the operation but it’s in the contract that they don’t. I was perfectly happy with that.”
Commending the broadcaster for their support throughout his injuries, Nick added: “They’ve been very good and helped out. They were great with physios and support, so they’ve been great from beginning to end.”
