A police officer noticed a man leave a residence with a firearm around 2 a.m. Saturday.
A standoff with police early Saturday morning in New Westminster ended with one man arrested.
Police say at about 2 a.m., an officer responded to an unrelated call for service in the 700-block of Queens Avenue.
While on that call, the officer noticed a man leaving a residence with a firearm.
Police allege he called out to the man but the man did not acknowledge police and went back inside the residence.
Patrol members attempted to negotiate his surrender but he refused to leave, police said. So the Lower Mainland District Emergency Response Team was called in to help.
The man was located inside the residence at about 9 a.m. and was arrested without incident, according to police.
New Westminster police have not said yet whether the man has been charged.
