Keeping your mirrors at home takes a lot of effort, because even the smallest marks like dust or fingerprints can very quickly appear.

A shining, streak-free mirror makes the whole room look a lot and brighter, so it’s definitely worth the struggle.

And while there are certain tools that can make the process easier, such as window vacuums, sometimes it’s the oldest tricks in the book that make the biggest difference.

That’s according to cleaning , who recently made a video trying out some classic ‘old-school’ tricks that have been used to clean homes for years.

She says the key to streak-free mirrors lies in one very simple item that helps to trap dust and create that enviable shine on the glass.

Clean the glass

The cleaning pro, who has more than 675k followers on the video-sharing app, says that using a newspaper sheet to clean your mirrors is the key to achieving that shiny appearance.

She said: “Something about the newspaper just brings the mirrors up so streak-free.”

In the video, she sprayed an ordinary glass cleaner on to her living room and bathroom mirrors, before using a crumpled up piece of newspaper to buff it into the glass.

And the end result was a perfectly clean and shiny surface, free of any dirt, fingerprints or other common household headaches.

Don’t miss… [UPDATE]

ad Testing old school cleaning hacks from @Cleanipedia ???????????? Im usually pretty clueless when it comes to hacks because I just wasnt taught any but I learn so many from Cleanipedia and love that everything they share is science-backed and safe ????????????

And the cleaning experts at have also endorsed this nifty hack too, saying it can make your mirrors look ‘crystal clear’ again.

They explained: “Use your newspaper to wipe across the mirror in a broad “S” pattern, working from edge to edge, top to bottom.

“Try to lead with the same edge to capture any dirt or debris without spreading it around. Don’t use a circular motion to clean the mirror; you’re not buffing a car.”

And to prevent mirrors from fogging up in the first place – which is a nightmare in the bathroom – they have suggested a simple solution for this too.

All you need to do is combine one cup water, one cup vinegar and a teaspoon of dish soap in a spray bottle and shake gently to mix.

Apply the solution directly to the mirror and let it sit for a few seconds, before wiping it away with newspaper or a microfiber cloth.

This should stop your mirror from fogging up for a few days, and you can repeat this whenever necessary.
