fans were gobsmacked last weekend as musician Macy Gray stormed off stage after being unmasked as Toad in the Hole.
It appeared Macy was refusing to give an exit interview after being eliminated so early on in the competition, when in the US version of the show she’d made it to the final. But eventually – reportedly after coaxing from staff – she returned to the stage to talk to the judges.
Fans have been speculating as to the “real reason” Macy walked off, with one forum user suggesting: “It did seem strange, especially agreeing to do the show. I found a clip of Macy on This Morning, saying that her voice was her biggest insecurity and often target for bullies who made her life a living hell as a child.
“So maybe being judged purely on voice (and her assuming leave early = poor) must have affected her?”
But Macy isn’t the only one to throw a strop on the show, where celebrities conceal themselves in elaborate costumes and give the judges clues to their identity.
Masked Singer US winner Firefly stormed off stage

After revealing the votes, Firefly stomped off backstage, leaving judges Nicole Scherzinger, Ken Jeong and Jenny McCarthy flummoxed. Guest judge Eric Stonestreet begged: “Where did Firefly go?” as Jenny replied: “She just walked off the stage.”
However, after the storm-off, Firefly went on to win the show, and was unmasked as actress and singer-songwriter Teyana Taylor.
A controversial Republican was unmasked on the show
In another episode of The Masked Singer US, it was the judges who stormed off-set after a controversial politician was unmasked on the programme.
’s former lawyer Rudy Giuliani was unmasked on the 2022 season, along with controversial Republican politician Sarah Palin. Rudy’s reveal caused judges Ken Jeong and Robin Thicke to depart the stage in fury.
Ken fumed: “I’m done,” when Rudy was unmasked as Jack in the Box on the programme, after he’d promoted the baseless claim that Trump really won the 2020 presidential election, rather than .
