burst into tears on Big Show as fans were left sobbing along with him.
The show returned for a brand new series on Saturday night (January 18) and aired a huge format shake-up. Instead of the usual Send to All segment, Michael switched things up with a Remember Me? segment.
The chosen celebrity in the Royal Box was instead greeted by a selection of people from their past, and tasked with guessing who they are and how they knew them.
While Alan was greeted by a florist who delivered him flowers just that morning – and couldn’t remember who she was – and a colleague from a call centre, it was his former drama teacher who had him in tears.
Mr Bowden was welcomed onto the show, and Alan recognised him immediately.
Don’t miss…
Alan Carr burst into tears on the show
Alan exclaimed: “He’s my wonderful old drama teacher Mr Bowden! He was the most amazing teacher ever. You know when you’re at school and you’re not having the best time and you just love the drama lessons and being someone else for an afternoon. It was proper magical and you are just the best.”
And when Michael wondered what the teacher had to say about his former student, he said: “What one has to say about Alan – he’s absolutely wonderful. He was a marvellous, marvellous student. You should have seen the work he put in. Alan, you’ve said some lovely things about me, may I say, thank you for teaching me, because that’s what you did!”
Alan’s former drama teacher appeared on the show
Alan was forced to wipe tears away from his eyes as he waved away the compliments, asking the audience: “Isn’t he the best?!” He then announced he was coming down from the box – and arrived on stage to give the teacher a hug.
But the show wasn’t over yet, as Mr Bowden asked Michael: “Have I got time for one more thing?”
With permission, he continued: “In front of all these people I want to apologise to you. You only got a B!”
Fans were left emotional after the segment, with one tweeting: “Proper emotional watching Alan Carr remember his drama teacher, Mr Bowden. So moving and what all good teachers are about. What they said about each other was magical.”
“Loved the Alan Carr part with his school teacher,” someone else penned.
