Severance season 2 premiere sparks fan theories about Helly’s ‘true’ identity

WARNING: This article contains spoilers from Severance season 2

After a nearly three-year hiatus, the much-anticipated second season of TV+ drama Severance has finally hit our screens, and the premiere episode has already sent fans into overdrive.

The first episode, aptly titled ‘Hello, Ms. Cobel’, saw the return of Mark S (played by Adam Scott), Dylan (Zach Cherry), Irving (John Turturro) and Helly (Britt Lower) to Lumon Industries.

Following an initial hiccup where Mark found himself amidst a new team, the original quartet was eventually reunited.

Each character shared their experiences of the outside world, with Irving disclosing how he had seen his lover Burt (Christopher Walken) with another partner, leaving him heartbroken, reports .

Irving also unveiled his Outie had repeatedly painted a black hallway with a descending elevator, hinting that the Severance procedure might not be as straightforward or permanent as Lumon had initially implied.

However, it was Helly’s alleged account of her experiences in the outside world that left fans intrigued.

She claimed to have been in a “boring apartment”, watching a nature programme and donning a save the gorillas T-shirt.

Helly recounted attempting to converse with a man gardening outside about the sinister happenings at Lumon, but he dismissed her as insane and threatened to inform his “cop” friend.

She concluded her tale by stating she had “tried” to warn the outside world, but her efforts were seemingly ignored.

While Dylan and Mark appeared to trust her, Irving was sceptical, questioning her about a “night gardener” and seemingly catching her in a lie.

He wasn’t the only one left suspicious; numerous Severance fans took to social media platform X to share their theories about Helly. She was previously revealed as Helena Egan, the daughter of Lumon Industries’ CEO and the company’s apparent heir.

“How people see me when I explain that Helly wasn’t in Severance Episode 1, it was actually HELENA EAGAN pretending to be her innie #Severance,” one fan penned. Another speculated: “What if it was helena eagen walking out of the elevator and NOT helly #Severance [sic].”

Two others observed: “That’s not helly btw #Severance” and “not Helly lying to them #Severance [sic].”

One viewer expressed confusion, saying: “My family is backkk but what happened to Helly R ? ? ? It’s not her #Severance [sic].”

“#Severance so we’re all in agreement that helly r is actually her outie? ? like i know my girl and that’s not helly, that’s HELENA [sic],” another audience member posted.

Unfortunately, fans now face a torturous week-long wait to uncover more details about whether it’s Helly R or Helena who has infiltrated the group. However, this wait for answers will be shorter than the lengthy hiatus between seasons one and two.
