Paul Scholes has sent Man Utd a transfer warning.
Paul Scholes has blasted as “ridiculous” for reportedly considering selling and to comply with financial regulations. United are said to be listening to offers for all first-team players in an attempt to balance the books amid pressure imposed by the ‘s Profit and Sustainability Rules.
has overseen ruthless budget cuts since becoming co-owner last February and selling players is the quickest way for the club to raise funds.
Homegrown players represent pure profit on the books, sparking speculation surrounding Mainoo and Garnacho on top of Marcus Rashford’s expected exit.
have been tipped as the frontrunners to sign Mainoo should United fail to agree a new contract with the 19-year-old midfielder.
Meanwhile, Napoli have been pushing to recruit Garnacho this month to replace Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who is joining Paris Saint-Germain.
However, ahead of United’s 3-1 victory against Southampton on Thursday, Karen Carney and Scholes strongly spoke against the prospect of either departing.
“I don’t like the fact that you develop a player, and a young player comes in and breaks into the team, and you’re selling him for profit that gets off the Profit and Sustainability [Rules],” Carney told TNT Sports at Old Trafford.
“I hate that. And especially… I’m a bit of a purist. You’ve developed them through the academy, and everyone has worked really hard to get them there.

“So I think I hate it. I think it would be a really bad move. He’s [Mainoo’s] the key moving forward for .
“And Scholesy, you just mentioned you’re from the Class of 92; imagine selling you guys when you came through for that. It’d just be ludicrous.”
Scholes doubled down on Carney’s comments pitchside, describing Mainoo, in particular, as the future of ‘s team.
He added: “Yeah, it’d be absolutely ridiculous.
“On Garnacho, he’s been ‘s [top goalscorer this season], as you say, all the hard work that the club have to do for him.
“He’s probably been here since seven, eight years of age, Mainoo, and then obviously, to sell him for some PSR rules, it’s ridiculous.
“He’s one of United’s brighter sparks and probably the leading man who could be here for the next five to 10 years.”
For now, both starlets look set to remain at the Red Devils, at least until the end of the season, but clubs could be tempted to test Ratcliffe and Co.’s resolve in the summer.
