The agreement will also see free between 990 and 1,650 Palestinian prisoners and detainees in return for the release of the hostages.
“Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was informed by the negotiating team that agreements have been reached on a deal to release the hostages,” his office said in a statement.
The ceasefire deal was first announced on Wednesday (January 15) by mediators the US and Qatar, but this didn’t stop the strikes on Gaza. Israeli forces killed 86 people alone on Thursday and wounded 558 since the announcement. The dead include 23 children.
Al Jazeera reported: “Within the past 24 hours, the Israeli military scaled up its attacks across the Gaza Strip, mainly targeting buildings and public facilities. More people were killed inside their homes and shelters, where they had been seeking refuge and protection.”

The war was triggered by the attacks by Hamas in October 2023, which saw 1,200 people killed in southern and around 250 people taken hostage.
During an interview on MSNBC, President Biden said: “The idea that is going to be able to sustain itself for the long term without accommodating the Palestinian question… It’s not going to happen.”
Mr Biden, who hands over to on Monday, added: “And I kept reminding my friend, and he is a friend, although we don’t agree a whole lot lately, Bibi Netanyahu, that he has to find a way to accommodate the legitimate concerns of a large group of people called Palestinians, who have no place to live independently.”
