BBC presenters including Tony Blackburn and Simon Mayo have paid their respects to late broadcaster Johnnie Walker at his funeral on Friday (January 17).
at the age of 79, just two months after he called time on his 58-year career due to health issues.
The radio DJ had pulmonary fibrosis, which is scarring of the lungs, a condition which makes breathing difficult. Johnnie first shot to fame when he became a broadcaster on pirate radio stations such as Radio Caroline and Swinging Radio England in the 1960s.
In 1969, he joined Radio 1 where he began his illustrious career with the flagship company and famously fronted shows such as Sounds of the 70s and The Rock Show last October.
His fellow broadcasters were spotted arriving at St Peter’s Church in Shaftesbury, in the heart of Dorset all wearing black suits where they prepared to bid a final farewell to their friend.
