Two pounds stewing beef trimmed and cubed
Three tablespoons all-purpose flour
Half teaspoon garlic powder
Half teaspoon salt
Half teaspoon black pepper
Three tablespoons olive oil
One onion chopped
Six cups beef broth
Half cup red wine optional
One pound potatoes peeled and cubed
Four carrots cut into one inch pieces
Four ribs celery cut into one inch pieces
Three tablespoons tomato paste
One teaspoon dried rosemary or one sprig fresh

This easy beef stew recipe is a comforting classic
Method
In a bowl, combine the flour, garlic powder, and salt and pepper. Coat the beef in the flour mixture, ensuring it’s evenly covered.
Heat olive oil in a large Dutch oven or suitable pot. Brown the beef and onions, stirring occasionally.
Once the beef is browned, pour in the beef broth and red wine, using a wooden spoon to scrape up any caramelised bits from the bottom of the pan.
Add all the remaining ingredients, except for the peas, cornstarch, and water. Stir to combine, then reduce the heat to medium-low, cover, and let it simmer for around an hour to 90 minutes, or until the beef becomes tender.
To thicken the stew, create a slurry by mixing equal parts cornstarch and water. Gradually add this to the simmering stew until it reaches the desired consistency. You may not need all of the slurry, and you can always add extra for a thicker texture if preferred.
Once thickened, stir in the peas and continue to simmer for an additional five to 10 minutes before serving. Adjust the seasoning with salt and pepper to taste.
