Canucks Coffee: You want how much for tickets?

The Canucks seem to be only interested in bleeding peoples’ wallets, not so much on the actual experience of being a fan.

Honestly, when I first saw the price, it didn’t seem real.

Text message promotions landing on the phones of Canucks fans who were signed up to the Student Rush promotion, what are meant to be discounted tickets for post-secondary students, offered day-of.

But the first screenshot of the text I saw said the tickets were for $179. That didn’t seem right.

So I asked on social media if others had seen it. And yes, there was the confirmation.

Absurd. The program claims to offer discounted tickets for young fans who can’t afford to pay regular prices.

Here’s the other hilarious thing: Thursday afternoon you could find resale tickets on Ticketmaster’s site that were going for less than this offer was promoting.

And, even at faceoff, the arena wasn’t sold out. They’ve only sold out once this season.

Maybe pricing out your fans isn’t a great idea? Other teams don’t just look at their fans as bags of money to be looted, they look to create lasting, positive relationships with their fans.

The Canucks used to be like this: the players would get out in the community. They actually spent time getting to know some people. The whole team used to visit Children’s hospital, for instance.

They were visible to the fans. They weren’t just guys who would walk in and out of a tunnel and otherwise be invisible.

Who would bother?

Given the dreck they’ve seen on home ice this season, you have to wonder why fans keep paying.

The season ticket holders are stuck. But single game fans how can they feel they’re getting value for money? Between the price of getting in, plus food and beverage, it’s a huge chunk of many peoples’ paycheque.

Does the team know that?

Who will be left

Management is coming to recognize that they can’t go on like this, a source said late Thursday. There’s going to be change. Miller or Pettersson, one will go.

The team is selling for cents on the dollar, of course so the Canucks will take whatever deal they feel is the best one. That’s it.

It’s hard to see the Canucks keeping him.
