Ruben Amorim has indicated that he wants to keep Alejandro Garnacho at Old Trafford
Ruben Amorim has clearly indicated that he is desperate to avoid losing Alejandro Garnacho, who continues to be linked with a January move away from .
Napoli are said to be keen on bringing the winger to Italy, with reports suggesting that United have already turned down a bid in the region of £40million.
Garnacho is not the only Red Devils forward to have been linked with an exit before the end of the window. Marcus Rashford is known to be angling for a move and is thought to be attracting interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs.
Amorim has dealt with Rashford by excluding him from seven of United’s last eight matchday squads, but the 39-year-old is taking a different approach with Garnacho.
He has continued to play for United on a regular basis and was named in the starting line-up for Thursday’s game against Southampton, suggesting that Amorim is hoping to keep him at Old Trafford for the foreseeable future.
Napoli are said to be eyeing Garnacho as a replacement for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who is reportedly set to join Paris Saint-Germain. However, it seems clear that Amorim wants him to stay after commenting on the speculation ahead of United facing Southampton.
Asked if the winger still had a bright future at Old Trafford, the Red Devils manager said: “That is clear. He has talent. He needs to learn to play in a different position, he needs to play better inside.
“He improves a lot in the recovering position when he doesn’t have the ball, but doing that, sometimes he’s not in the right place to make transitions like he was in the past.
“I prefer to defend and then build up with the entire team to reach the final third. He’s finding the best way to play in this system. He’s improving during training. He started the last game. Let’s see [on Thursday]. I think he changed the way he sees himself.”
