Nintendo Switch 2 Direct – Fans face long wait for release date, pre-orders and new games

As you can see from the trailer below, the new console is much larger than before, and features a selection of upgrades over the original.

Nintendo will reveal even more about the new console during an upcoming Direct conference, although fans will have to wait a long time for the event to take place.

The has an April 2 air date, where it will be broadcast live on YouTube.

The event will shed new light on the games coming to the Switch 2, as well as the exact release date and when pre-orders will go live.

Unless we are treated to even more leaks along the way, this means we’re going to be in the dark for another two months.

There are rumours that a separate Nintendo Direct will take place in February, but this will reportedly focus on games coming to the original Switch.

Of course, with the Switch 2 featuring backwards compatibility, these games will also be playable on the new console.

This includes Metroid Prime 4, which is likely to be one of the big new Nintendo exclusives available at launch.

Speaking of new and backwards compatible games, old Switch cartridges and digital games will work on the Switch 2, although there will be some exceptions.

Nintendo explains more: “Certain Nintendo Switch games may not be supported on or fully compatible with Nintendo Switch 2.

“Details will be shared on the Nintendo website at a later date.”

As for the Switch 2, the console is bigger than the current model, featuring improved Joy-Cons, a more flexible kickstand and backwards compatibility.

Fans will be able to go hands-on with the console during special events taking place around the world during April and May.

For UK fans, a Switch 2 Experience event be held from April 11 until April 13.
