ITV The Chase’s Mark Labbett calls Bradley Walsh ‘an old ruin’ in a brutal swipe

ITV quiz icon issued a savage comment during the latest episode of against . During Thursday’s edition of the quiz show, four new contestants came up against Mark – aka The Beast – in a bid to win some cash.

Ellen from Welwyn Garden City, Sonal from Northampton, Gerard from Liverpool and Trevor from East Yorkshire attempted to take down Mark – however the first two contestants failed to make it through to the final round.

Meanwhile, Gerard put on an impressive performance during the cash-builder round before he faced Mark during The Chase. As ‘The Beast’ introduced himself, he quipped: “Good afternoon Gerard. Well, this won’t be the first time that you’ve stood next to a much-loved, old ruin.”

Referring to Bradley Walsh, the host couldn’t contain his laughter as Gerard said: “A bit cheeky that?” to which Bradley stayed in character and said: “Put some money on the table.”

Gerard had previously told Bradley that he studied history at university and later became a teacher, but now works to teach children with special needs.

Gerard and Trevor both managed to make it through to the final round with £9,000 in the prize fund. They answered 19 questions correctly – but was it enough to beat Mark Labbett?

Sadly they were quickly caught, but Bradley still praised the pair for their impressive performance despite walking away with nothing.

The host also said that contestants need to answer about 21 or 22 questions correctly to really ‘push’ the Chaser down to the wire.

The 59 year old has been open about his remarkable journey which has seen him lose 10 stone. He reached his peak in 2020 during lockdown.

In 2016 he was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes and was forced to make drastic lifestyle changes. This involved him cutting out two foods from his diet – sugar and carbs.

He also credits his pet Labrador Retriever for helping his shed more weight. Mark said: “I was walking him around the fields, taking me places… I think he’s helped a lot, simply because I’m doing more activity.”
