Former favourite opened up on This Morning about his gruelling fight with arthritis. viewers were shocked to hear from Adam, in conversation with and Cat Deeley, about the severity of his pain, which sometimes meant he needed his wife’s help to get dressed.

Dr Zoe Williams responded to Adam’s decision to halt by insisting: “With any illness like this, lifestyle first. If people can get themselves better and manage their illness with a lifestyle approach, fantastic.”

In an effort to manage his condition, Adam adopted a carnivorous , although Dr Zoe remarked such a strategy isn’t usually recommended long-term given the risk of missing out on essential nutrients. Yet, it’s challenging to convince someone like Adam — who moved from dependence on his wife for basic tasks to enjoying workouts and a new lease on life through his dietary changes — to give it up.

Adam wowed audiences in 2023, partnering with professional dancer Luba Mushtuk on , where the duo impressed until their departure in week seven. Reflecting on his experience, Adam shared on the show: “I got the diagnosis literally just before I did Strictly. I signed up to do Strictly way before any of this.”

He then spoke candidly about his health issues, saying: “So, I just thought the pain would go away, and it didn’t. Doing Strictly, it was very challenging.”

Adam even managed a chuckle when the host Ben cheekily mocked his dancing prowess, replying with jest: “You had to go there, didn’t you? ! But, you look back at some of the dances and I don’t do any lifts or any swirls or anything like that. I couldn’t lift her up. But, even after the diagnosis it’s finding the right medication that works for you and every body is different.”

Addressing a question from Ben regarding the hereditary aspect of his condition, Adam revealed his shock, despite knowing he could be at risk, saying: “That’s what worries me the most. My kids might possibly get this one day. So I’m doing everything and anything I can do now to try and find a blueprint, so if it does happen, then I can pass that information on.”

Sharing details of his treatment regimen, Adam discussed undergoing a brief course of chemotherapy, which resulted in side effects such as nausea and overpowering fatigue.

Adam opened up to Ben and Cat about his bold decision to stop his medication in favour of the carnivore diet, a move he believes sparked his noticeable improvement just before the festive period. He concluded optimistically: “It’s been a long journey, but I’m starting to see light at the end of the tunnel now, which is good.”
