Daniil Medvedev opted out of his Australian Open press conference after crashing out in the second round.
Medvedev was coming up against Learner Tien in his round-two clash but the Russian ace suffered a shock exit at the hands of the American.
Tien established an early lead in the contest by winning the first two sets, only for Medvedev to battle back and level things up at 2-2.
In the second of those two sets, Medvedev despatched Tien 6-1 with it looking like the 2021 US Open champion would go on and triumph in the third.
Update from the press room at 3:38 am:“Daniil’s not coming.”

It didn’t prove the case though, as Tien was the one who took the deciding set during an epic 7-6 (10-7) tiebreaker.
Given the match went all the way to a seventh set, proceedings down under didn’t wrap up until gone 3am local time.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, Medvedev, who was likely just wanting to return to his bed, decided to skip his pre-planned press conference.
